A normal 120 volt AC outlet is fused (by a circuit breaker) at 15 amps on the "hot" wire. 15 amps times 120 volts is 1800 watts, or 1.8 KW. Combining two 120 volt outlets that are on opposite phases would give you 15 amps at 240 volts. 15 times 240 is 3600 watts, or 3.6 KW. Wh...

Paul if you look at the specs for the adapter in question, it converts two 30A 120V (3600W ea) circuits to one 50A 120V (7200W) circuit. Unfortunately there's no free lunch. Mike --- Paul Peavyhouse <[email removed]> wrote: > Thanks for the links Mike! > > I don't quite unders...

Gil, If I remember right the expensive ones do have some user instrumentation (just a couple LEDs on the front to tell you if it's working or there's a fault). Basically the way I understand it they check for current on both legs of the adapter before they will allow any curre...

Actually, There are a number of Boating products to do exactly this. They have circuitry to ensure they are combining equivalent phase lines, and to ensure that they don't put power out on unconnected male connectors. Here's a few samples. http://froogle.google.com/froogle?q=M...
