[S10-EV] Service Soon/Now Lights

Scott Leck Sun, 20 Feb 2011 14:39:50 -0800 2011 Thread size 3
I have a 1997 S-10 with the NiMH battery pack. I charged it yesterday am, and went to the store. First the Service Soon light came on, followed shortly by the Service Now light. I drove home (about 1 mile) and parked it. I checked with the Tech 2 and found the following codes:...

So as many of you recall, my brother and I are resurrecting a 97 s10 ev. We don't have a tech2 scanner yet, and as we get closer to getting ready to getting this back on the road, I was hoping we could find someone near either him or myself that does have one that we could use...

Hi all, I don't know if you ended up buying that vehicle but since the auction is over now I feel comfortable telling you about mine. I'm selling my 1987 Nissan Hardbody Shortbed, named "Quicksilver". It's a pretty standard conversion with a Curtis 400A controller, a Sevcon DC...

An Idea concerning the Power steering module on the S10-EV; it would be less expensive to convert it to manual steering by changing the steering gear box; less required electrical energy from the system; I did this to a 1984 S-15 Jimmy and do not regret the [email removed] MAY...

When I was tracking the Tech2 on eBay they seem to sell for around 1500 to 2000 dollars used. 1100 dollars is a very good buy you did well. There are now fake Tech2 units coming out of China so that is something to be concerned about. The shipping cost would depend on how far...

I was able to get by with a little less. Tech 2 scanner used from ebay was $1100.00, I? charged the batteries individually using 2 chargers that were $100 or so for the 2. I have dropped the pack several times on the garage floor using substantial jack stands and a heavy duty...

Jay, ? ??? You need a few items for this project...a tech 2 scanner (aprox. $3,000). a fairly substantial regulated dc power supply (aprox. $750), a set of good batteries (the shipping is almost as much as the batteries if you can find good ones), some way to get about 36 inch...

Hi Jay, Welcome. I can't answer all of your questions. Even though I've owned my 97 Lead-Acid truck for 2 years this May, I am still learning about these amazing trucks. You can get all of your questions answered in the archives of this site. Lots of good information and advic...

Hello Stephen I would love to have more information on the hall sensor! I am going to disassemble the PIM again and measure the IGBT resistances to eliminate/include them. And i will be checking the Rail Stabilization Caps and for loose cap screws. So if i can know how to loca...

Hello Greg, I was thinking the IGBT's also. I was especially thoughtful after reading The car that could (on Don's recommendation), and the big debate between Hughes and Cocconi about whether to use IGBT or multiple mosfet (also very unreliable because if one went the whole st...

I had a somewhat similar problem. In my case it was due to a bad Hall sensor in the PIM. Everything was actually working OK but a sensor was sending a bad signal. So the truck would shut down because it thought the voltage was out of phase. Unfortunately, the hall sensor is no...

I had this problem on my truck after driving a bit too hard. I believe what you are seeing is a set of failing IGBT's, in that their leakage current has grown to large. It means that the gate driver circuitry is unable to shut them off sufficiently. In my case the problem got...

Good morning everyone, I am wondering if i could ask for a small amount of advice, or ask if anyone has encountered the same problem as me. I am driving a 1998 S10-EV NiMH. Recently it started to occasionally disconnect the battery pack when i start off. The Tech 2 shows DTC11...

Richard, I would not want to guess at which wire would interrupt the charge. I only cut the paddle present, (Dark Green), wire in my harness to test it. There is a ground, (Black), and a power, (Red or Orange), in that plug. The power wire may do it. I don't have the books her...

Thanks Jeff, Yes, you could drive away with paddle inserted. However if I turn the key on, with paddle inserted, I immediately get a "Service Soon" light and the 287 code. Since I have never been into the charge receptacle, I figured an external micro switch would be easier. I...

Kevin, I need to add that your reed switch has failed to the degree that the embedded magnets in the charger paddle do not activate it while the paddle is installed. This presents a safety issue whereas you could inadvertently drive away from the charger with the paddle still...
