Personally, I think you should not plan to "long term" store the truck by disconnecting the HV. The NiMH batteries in these trucks will self-discharge in only a few weeks, so they need to be charged at least every two weeks, preferrably every week. You shouldn't fear the fire...

Sounds like the same battery issue that Eric Leubbman has been working on for me while I am on the East Coast for 2 months. The result is that battery module #15 goes into an overcharge condition and begins to emit excessive heat. It may not be the same battery in your truck....
